Goals & Progress

Below we'll be discussing the progress our team has made on the game so far this semester. For this semester we are working with a one-week sprint structure. We'll be covering the third sprint and what we've done, what we plan to do in the future, what went wrong, and what we're fixing going forward.

Goals

Art & Technical Art
  • Palette tests for our characters

  • Concrete concept art for the main character & a vote on design basics

Programming
  • Finish basic movement

  • Add in a camera

  • Begin the combat system

  • Have the enemies perform basic wandering behaviors

Design
  • Test the level

  • Plan the boss moveset

Progress

Art & Technical Art

Unfortunately, due to setbacks based on projects and exams for classes, we didn't do any palette tests for the player character. We did have an initial silhouette and style vote for the main character's design. The sword was modeled, textured, and imported into Unreal. The sword materials were evaluated in-engine for overall complexity to ensure we didn't run into performance issues later down the line. The team also got some basic environmental sketches done that we then used to start gray boxing our main game scene to test perspective and layout.

Design

Design took a bit of a break this sprint, looking more at how we wanted our levels to flow and progress within one another. This included a plan for the tutorial level!

Programming

Programming made a lot of progress on player controls this sprint. We started the sword combo system, the sword's class, and the system that allows the player to drop it. We also continued work on the enemies with movement tweaks. The enemies can now take damage and die!

Setbacks

  • The Midterm Exams happened

Gotta love it👍

  • Fall Break!

  • We swapped over to Perforce!

Our team managed to get a Perforce license that allowed all of us to use it!
